AFRIpads (Uganda) Ltd. is a fast-growing social enterprise in Uganda that manufactures and sells reusable (washable) cloth sanitary pads as an impactful feminine hygiene solution for women and girls in East Africa and beyond. Creating social impact is paramount to AFRIpads’ business objectives. The company’s mission is to empower women and girls through business, innovation, and opportunity. Having pioneered the reusable sanitary pad market in East Africa, AFRIpads has reached more than 1 million women and girls with its product. Headquartered in Kampala, Uganda and with a manufacturing facility in Masaka, AFRIpads currently employs 160 staff across both locations. To facilitate its growth and improve production efficiency, AFRIpads is building its own workshop in Kitengesa village, located 7 km outside of Masaka, which will be completed in August 2018.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
AFRIpads seeks a competent Accountant who will assume responsibility for the entity’s financial accounting thus prepare, examine, and analyse accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting, regulatory and procedural standards.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting, regulatory and procedural standards.
  • Prepare asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
  • Document financial transactions by entering account information.
  • Recommend financial actions by analyzing accounting options.
  • Summarize current financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement, statement of cash flows and other reports on a monthly basis.
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs.
  • Advise management about issues such as resource utilization, tax strategies, and the assumptions underlying budget forecasts.
  • Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents.
  • Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
  • Guide accounting clerical staff by coordinating activities and answering questions.
  • Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
  • Secure financial information by completing data base backups.
  • Maintain financial security by following internal controls.
  • Prepare payments by verifying documentation, and requesting disbursements.
  • Answer accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations.
  • Reconciling & verifying transactions before posting them to the respective ledgers.
  • Managing daily general post ins/outs depending on the transactions (payments, receipts, purchases, etc.)
  • Support overall office administration and back-office needs in coordination with office, field and production staff, and service providers as needed.
  • Support AFRIpads overall company objectives to drive growth and impact
  • Perform any other duties assigned by his/ her supervisor

Education, Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business required preferably in Accounting or Finance with four years accounting experience in a busy private organisation.
  • Relevant professional qualification such as CPA Uganda or ACCA
  • Good working knowledge of QuickBooks accounting system.
  • Good working knowledge of MS office applications such as Ms Excel and Ms Word.
  • Knowledge of general accounting and fiscal management principles.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing

COMPENSATION:
AFRIpads (U) Ltd. is offering a compensation package commensurate with experience and a one year renewable contract.
