Introduction
The Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi in conjunction with the Aga Khan Health Service in Uganda invites applications for the following position to be based in Kampala, Uganda.

Job Summary
The successful candidate will perform all duties associated with the provision of effective and comprehensive nursing care to patients and their families in the endoscopy suite.

Responsibilities
• Ensure a high standard of nursing care to patients attending the Endoscopy Unit, working within institution policies and procedures
• Complete pre-procedure assessment. Review pre-procedure patient information, including History & Physical examinations, medications, for patients attending the Endoscopy Unit, to identify their care needs and plan effective nursing interventions to meet those needs
• Ascertain patient readiness for the procedure using a checklist i.e., confirm consent, IV access, and vital signs
• Helps prepare procedure room prior to each procedure by assisting in the proper preparation of supplies, medication, equipment, and instrumentation involved in patient care including crash cart contents and emergency equipment and supplies and complete checklist to verify proper equipment functioning before start of the procedure
• Provide technical assistance during diagnostic and therapeutic Endoscopic procedures while ensuring safe working practice.
• Monitor the patient during the procedure, ensuring patient safety, stability and dignity is maintained throughout the procedure
• Provide patient family education about the procedure and make an effort to reduce patients’ anxiety.
• Participate in the care and maintenance of endoscopes and other specialized equipment, always ensuring an agreed standard of decontamination including accurate records of traceability of all endoscopes and associated equipment
• Provide safe environment for patients through adherence to infection control practices, timely safety checks on oxygen source, suction and other equipment used in the unit.
• Take accountability for efficient use of consumables and practice judicious stock control at all times i.e., accurate and timely billing of used CSSD items and unit drugs
• Participate in centre-based nursing education, centre quality improvement project meetings(CQIPS), quality improvement (QI) projects, audits, spot checks and skill checks.

Requirements
• Registered Nurse from a recognized school of nursing and Midwifery
• Current licensure with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience in an acute care hospital preferably in nephrology
