Summary In a bid to ensure the sustainable achievement of its vision and mission, AMwA seeks to recruit a highly experienced and passionate woman who explicitly identifies as a feminist, has supported and stood with movements of dispossessed people (especially women), and holds a radical vision and practice that goes beyond conventional mainstream liberal and gender mainstream thinking. The successful candidate will contribute to the political and strategic implementation of AMwA’ Economic Justice and Climate Action programme and projects ensuring alignment to the organisation’s political mission and vision, and its longterm strategy.

Key roles and responsibilities:
• Broadly, the successful candidate will support in strategy, program planning and implementation; feminist research and advocacy; nurturing the feminist philosophy; feminist movement building and solidarity; networking, building strategic alliances and partnerships development. Specifically, the successful candidate will:
• Provide support in the overall planning and implementation of AMwA’s Economic Justice and Climate Action programme and projects while ensuring that it is anchored deeply in the mission of feminist leadership, organizing and movement building, and advances our radical vision of transformation.
• Assist in the delivery of AMwA’s feminist action learning approach to monitoring and evaluation, ensuring that these efforts support our political ambition to strengthen and support women’s leadership and movement-building within the Economic Justice and Climate Action space at continental and global level.
• Support the Programme Lead, Head of Programmes and the Director, who hold primary accountability for fundraising, in conceptualizing and planning for the programme team, in the development of fundraising proposals, and ensuring that the programme adheres to the highest standards of transparency, accountability, compliance and financial integrity.
• Generate a body of knowledge on African Feminist economic and climate justice through research, feminist analysis and documentation, and provides support in the development and technical review of analytical papers, concept notes, blogs, and other formats of resource materials that capture African women’s lived realities and align to and constructively represent AMwA’s feminist analysis and perspectives in challenging patriarchy, neoliberalism, capitalism, neocolonialism, and other systems and structures of oppression in the quest for economic and climate justice.
• Ensure alignment of the programme’s activities and budgets to the AMwA strategic plan priorities and provide support in assessing trends and systematic changes relevant to social justice, specifically economic and climate Justice around policies, practices, systems and structures.
• Support in creating robust, innovative, and cutting-edge influencing strategies to ensure that feminist alternatives are adopted in different policy processes that AMwA engages in. ● Work closely with other programme officers and programme associates to ensure cross-learning, intersectional and holistic implementation of AMwA’s programmes.
• Co-lead the development of both internal and external programme reports.
• Contribute to effective implementation of all Economic Justice and Climate Action work.
• Coordinates the convening of the African Women’s Leadership Institute (AWLI), Re-think spaces and follow up on action points under the Economic Justice and Climate Action Programme.
• Supports in building and inspiring African women and girls in all their diversities, AMwA alumni, AMwA sub grantee partners and other African feminists and women’s rights organizations across the African regions and in the diaspora to enhance their knowledge and engage/ exercise feminist thought leadership in different policy and decision making spaces to sustain voices of African women and girls in all their diversities and their demand for economic and climate justice.
• Coordinate with and nurture a community of African Feminists working on Economic Justice and Climate Action with a view to build and strengthen allies between and among gender equality and social justice advocates with other traditional economic justice and Climate Action allies and partners.
• Maintain AMwA’s external credibility and high-level external relations with various stakeholders within the feminist movement, CSO, AU institutions, UN, media and among AMwA’s development partners; and participate in identifying, initiating and nurturing strategic networks and alliances with academia, and research institutions.
• Supports in partner identification, capacity assessments and strengthening; and conduct regular programme support to AMwA’s sub-grantee partners in the different countries of implementation.

Qualifications, Experience and Personal Qualities
• Have a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Environment and Natural Resources, Economics, Development Studies, and Gender, Law or any other relevant discipline from the university.
• A postgraduate or masters is an added advantage.
• 3 years in a similar position, working on public policy issues and using a gendered analysis of Economics and Climate Justice.
• A proven commitment to women’s rights activism and demonstrable experience in social justice or human rights broadly;
• Proven interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people in a multi-cultural, multi-interest, multi-ethnic environment
• Ability to communicate and work effectively in English.
• Competency in French will be added an advantage
• Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner
• Ability and willingness to adhere to evolving work practices and hours.
• Excellent analytical, team management and communication skills
• Ability to organize and work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Excellent knowledge of digital data collection and accountability systems.
• Excellent advanced quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills
• Willing to travel frequently within Africa and beyond.
