PROGRAM OVERVIEW
LWI Uganda was established in 2009 as an affiliate of Living Water International with its headquarters in Houston, Texas, USA that was founded in 1990 and currently works in over 19 countries across Latin America, the Caribbean, Sub-Saharan Africa and India.


WHAT WE DO
LWI Uganda runs an integrated Water Sanitation Hygiene (WASH) program in South Western Uganda in the districts of Ntungamo, Kiruhura and Ibanda and looking to expand to Eastern and Northern Uganda by 2021. We partner with like-minded organsations to provide safe drinking water, Community Mobilisation & Gospel Proclamation, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion and build the capacity of communities in operation and maintenance of wells for sustainability.


LWI Uganda seeks to recruit a young Ugandan who is passionate, dynamic and competent to fill the position of Finance Assistant in Kampala office.

JOB DETAILS:
The Finance Assistant will be responsible for maintaining sound financial and accounting systems and controls for LWI Uganda. The role entails performing day to day financial and accounting tasks including, processing payments, filing and document retrieval, providing data for report preparation and inputting data into Quick Books Accounting System. This position will also support auditing, budgeting, financial accounting and grants management.


KEY ROLES
1. Accounting and Finance

  1. Process and ensure all financial transactions are recorded as per IAS and LWI Uganda procedures and policies.
  2. Prepare cheque and on-line payments for review by the Finance Manager as per LWI finance policies, accounting standards and donor policies and regulations.
  3. Ensure all other statutory and payroll deductions are accurately and promptly settled i.e. PAYE, NSSF, Withholding Tax, and Local Services Tax.
  4. Maintain proper books of accounts and ensure sound filing system (retrieval, archive)
  5. Prepare various financial statement schedules to facilitate annual audit including Program office processes.

2. Grants and Contracts Management:

  1. Periodically visit partners and review their financial and administrative policies and procedures, identify shortcomings and train partners in such areas.
  2. Receive and review supporting documentation from partners
  3. Prepare and submit to Finance Manager interim and final donor financial reports for review, at least one week before the due date
  4. Prepare and circulate monthly monitoring (expense vs. budget) report to Programme managers as per the set deadlines for assigned project codes
  5. Promptly follow-up and make adjustments to monthly and interim donor reports based on feedback from the program managers.
  6. Discuss project performance with Project managers on a monthly basis
  7. Review monthly donor reports with the relevant managers and point out areas with financial risks in line with donor conditions for the managers to take proactive corrective action.


3. Budgeting

  1. Assist project managers and partners in budget phasing and budget realignment
  2. Support in production of budget monitoring information and review with the budget holders and project team.


ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • University Degree in Finance, Business Administration (Accounting/Finance optio), Business Economics/Finance.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in similar role with an INGO
  • Working experience with Quick Books accounting software.
  • Proficiency in computer especially Excel, MS Word, presentation
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • High level of Integrity/ethics, commitment and respect for diversity
  • Self-driven, attention to detail,

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge and familiarity with rules and regulations of major donors & partners like USAID, EU, DFID, will be added advantage
