JOB DETAILS:
The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) is placing this advertisement for recruitment on behalf of the Phase One (1) District local Governments implementing the Micro-scale Irrigation Program of the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfer Reform Program.

The recruitment will be conducted by the respective District Service Commissions with Technical assurance from MAAIF and appointments effected by the respective District Local Governments currently on one (1) year renewable contract.

Interested candidates are invited to submit their applications to fill the vacancies to the respective District Service Commissions, for any positions applied.

Application forms (PSC Form 3) are obtainable from Public Service Commission, Kampala, District Service Commissions Countrywide, and Chief Administrative Officers’ Offices or can be downloaded from www.psc.co.ug website. Filled forms (3 copies) must be accompanied by 3 recent passport size photographs and certified copies of relevant certificates, pass slips and transcripts to reach to the Secretary, District Service Commission of the respective districts not later than 4 weeks from the date of this advert. Handwritten applications with detailed curriculum vitae are also acceptable. Applications should bear the title of the post applied and the district. For all posts, qualified Female and persons with disabilities stand an advantage.

Job Purpose
To implement strategies, programmes and plans for sustainable utilization of water for agricultural production technologies.

Key Outputs
(i) Farm inspection and assessments undertaken to collect information for developing drawings and plans for irrigation systems and other water for agriculture production facilities
(ii) Construction and installation of irrigation systems and structures monitored and supervised
(iii) Advise on constructing methods, materials and quality standards and developing the necessary designs provided;
(iv) Energy and Farm systems and related technologies tested and certified.
(v) Operation, maintenance and management of farm power systems and facilities and related farm structures effectively rolled out.
(vi) Farmer and extension staff trained on in farm systems operation, maintenance and management, soil and water conservation.
(vii) Data on land use, soil conservation, farming systems, irrigation potential and irrigated land; performance of irrigation systems and water for agricultural production, compiled and analyzed;

Key Functions
(i) Liaise with Senior Agriculture Engineer to carry out farm inspections to assess sites and collect information for developing drawings and plans for farm systems and other water for Agricultural production facilities and structures.
(ii) Advising on constructing, materials quality standards and developing the necessary designs and drawings.
(iii) Inspection and testing all farm systems and related technologies in order to ensure their functionality, efficiency and effectiveness;
(iv) Promoting operation, maintenance and management of farm and irrigation systems facilities and related farm structures.
(v) Providing technical support training to extension staff and farmers in irrigation systems operation, maintenance and management, soil water conservation, and water harvesting;
(vi) Compiling and analyzing data on land use, soil conservation, farming systems and irrigation potential and irrigated land; performance of irrigation systems and water for agricultural production,
(vii) Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time


Person Specifications
Qualifications
(i) Honors Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Engineering Mechanical or Civil Engineering or Irrigation Engineering or Water Resources Engineering from recognized University/Institution or related qualifications from recognized from a recognized University/Institution.

• Time management.
