JOB PURPOSE:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Copy Editor/Writer to join our dynamic global communications team. This role will produce quality copy, and also ensure the clarity, consistency, accuracy, and effectiveness of written content across a range of internal and external communications. The Copy Editor/Writer will also provide limited training for staff in how to improve their writing.
The successful candidate will be an experienced editor with a strong grasp of grammar, style, and tone, particularly within the non-profit, international development, or humanitarian sectors. Projects that need copy editing will include research reports, annual reports, infographics, capacity statements, thought leadership content and more. Working remotely, the Copy Editor will collaborate closely with writers, designers, digital specialists, and other staff globally.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES:
Editing & Quality Control
- Edit and proofread a variety of content including reports, press releases, op-eds, digital copy, newsletters, donor communications, social media, internal documents, and more.
Producing written copy
- Create clear, captivating and persuasive content that delivers World Vision’s key messages for attitude or behaviour change
Content Support & Workflow
- Collaborate with staff from key teams providing content to establish and socialise copy-editing workflow systems, thereby ensuring timely and hassle-free support.
Provide training on effective writing
- Work with key staff to improve their ability to write engaging and accurate copy that raises World Vision’s brand.
Contribute to Global Marketing and Communications engagement efforts that build team unity, collaboration and trust.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING, LICENSE, REGISTRATION, AND CERTIFICATION
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
- 3–5 years of professional editing experience, preferably in an international nonprofit, NGO, or similar context.
- Exceptional command of written English, grammar, syntax, and style.
- Proven ability to edit complex, technical, or sensitive content into accessible and engaging language.
- Experience working with global and culturally diverse teams.
- Strong project/time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under deadlines.
- Comfortable working in a fully remote, digital environment.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
- Fluency in both written and spoken English
TRAVEL AND/OR WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Minimal with no more than 5% travel a year
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- A certification in editing and/or proofreading
- Providing basic training to colleagues about effective writing and editing
