Numida is a rapidly growing digital microfinance institution (MFI) in East Africa focused on serving Micro-and Small Businesses (MSBs). Thanks to our proprietary technology and credit processes, we provide growth and working capital to verified MSBs, resulting in high portfolio yields and a high impact on our borrowers’ livelihoods.
Through the Numida mobile app, small business owners apply for convenient and unsecured, short-term business loans by digitally submitting evidence of business ownership and activity. Our proprietary due diligence process, combining machine validation and human review, allows a first lending decision to be made in less than 72 hours and disbursed digitally via mobile money.

The Role:
We are looking for a Data Analyst to join our team in Kampala, Uganda. You will be responsible for providing insights and advanced analytics that will improve our products and shape company strategy. The position will focus on improving Numida’s Credit Operations and Finance functions through analytical insights that will enable us to better serve our customers and efficiently scale our team to meet growing demand.

Your Responsibilities:
• Work with all teams to prioritize their information needs with a special focus on Credit Operations and Finance
• Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques and generate useful business reports and dashboards
• Design and monitor key metrics to ensure Numida’s clients are being efficiently processed through our system
• Help the Finance team monitor and implement performance incentives for Numida staff
• Own one or multiple data models. Build, and maintain all data analytics infrastructure for these models.
• Improve our data structure/organization to ensure we have the foundational information needed to answer key business questions (wrangle our data)
• Identify missing data sources, instrument new data, and link the data to our main database using ETL tools
• Support team by answering urgent, ad hoc data questions as they arise
• Locate, define and communicate new process improvement opportunities
• Communicate with all teams regularly to determine changes in processes and new experiments to better understand the main factors influencing key metrics
• Ensuring that necessary tracking systems and feedback mechanisms are in place to evaluate and monitor new company initiatives and experiments in a timely and efficient manner

Skills & Qualifications:
• At least 3 years of working experience as a data analyst or business data analyst
• Proficiency in SQL and writing complex queries
• Strong command of statistical analysis and experience using statistical packages for analysing datasets (R, Python, SAS, SPSS)
• Strong communication skills and proficiency at translating business requirements and data insights into simple terms accessible to non-technical colleagues
• Strong Data Visualization and narrative skills
• Experience working with various datasets (small & large with various data types).
• Experience working with data from Core Banking Systems, Loan Management Systems, and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software is an asset (but not required)
• Have experience instrumenting new data sources, and linking the sources with other data (using ETL tools)
