Job details:
LEARNING MANAGER
BASED IN KAMPALA OR NAIROBI
Saferworld is an independent international organisation working to prevent violent conflict and build safer lives. We work with local people affected by conflict to improve their safety and sense of security, whilst conducting wider research and analysis into the drivers of conflict. We use this evidence and learning to improve local, national and international policies and practices that can help build lasting peace. We believe that efforts to prevent violent conflict should always be based on the local context and local needs.
Saferworld has been working in Africa since 1997, with a primary focus upon East Africa and the Horn ofAfrica regions. We have well-established programmes in Kenya, Uganda, Somalia and South Sudan. In addition, Saferworld supports regional and international conflict prevention and security processes. Saferworld headquarters are in London, with country offices in Nairobi, Kampala, Hargeisa, and Juba.
saferworld has recently been awarded three to five-year grants to implement programmes funded under the Government of the Netherlands Addressing the Root causes of Conflict (ARC) instrument in both East Africa and Pakistan. Saferworld is committed to learning and adaptive programming, and to sharing that learning widely, and the ARC Learning Manager will play an instrumental part in achieving this.
The overall aim of this post is to stimulate greater understanding and debate about people-focused security and justice work and to demonstrate how this approach can make a difference to the lives of people most affected by conflict and insecurity, reduce their levels of fear, and point the way to policy changes that will improve state- society relations. There will be a significant emphasis on learning from programming designed to challenge the gender norms that generate insecurity and conflict.
The position offers a competitive salary based on experience and relevant benefits.
The deadline for applications for this position is Sunday, 2nd April 2017.
