Reporting to: Senior Manager – Business Planning, Analytics and Research
Division – Business Intelligence
Mission/ Core purpose of the Job:
To lead and drive a team of data analysts to build and deploy the MTN Uganda BI analytics roadmap. Support all business verticals with regular and ad hoc analytics to enable greater visibility of business performance and RCA. To manage and own all business performance presentation to management, HUB and group.
Main Job Functions:
1. Budget Planning & forecasting:
• Responsible for Business Planning and forecasting modelling for the revenues and non-financial Business targets which involves:
• Reviewing trends in the telecommunications industry and providing insight into issues and events that would affect MTN operations and services to be factored into the business planning process.
• Liaising with other business divisions in the overall business planning, budget and reforecast process to ensure that quality drivers/assumptions for business plans and the business rules are correctly applied to the process and the forecasting scenarios.
• Managing the development of a business drivers framework to understand and quantify the causal impact of key structural, marketing, sales and product decisions on business metrics; use findings to influence business planning, investments and strategy
2. Pricing analysis
• Responsible for products & services pricing strategies to ensure economic feasibility and profitability. The tasks include:
• Optimization of the company’s value propositions through developing competitive pricing strategies with segmented propositions targeting specific customers
• Post-launch evaluation of all commercial initiatives including promotional discounting, retention campaigns, pricing changes, bundling, upsell and ancillary sales
• Review feasibility assumptions used versus actual behaviour in market after launch of product, promotion or activity.
• Review and assess of competitive price reactions scenarios
• Work with Product Managers and Marketing Communications to ensure that pricing is understandable and attractive to the target customers
3. Analytics
• Responsible for overseeing the delivery of the analytics roadmap:
• Implementation of MTN Group approved tools for advanced analytics
• Standardise processes and frameworks for implementation of machine learning models
• End to end management of the model development and deployment and operationalisation processes
• Ensure compliance to ethical, legal and regulatory guidelines for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning operations
4. Management
• Responsible for overseeing the Planning and Analytics team and its overall operation which includes:
• Driving best practice, continuous improvement and innovation at process and procedure level
• Constructing, implementing/fine-tuning methods, processes/systems to enhance effectiveness in meeting the organizational goals
• Providing strategic direction for the team, establishing priorities, identifying areas for growth, overseeing and driving the execution of projects. Should have a management style that exhibits high energy, collaboration, active and effective communication to resolve any potential conflicts that may arise
• Having regular team meetings, progress tracking and reporting
• Identifying training requirements for team members, developing programs to address knowledge gaps and enriching knowledge repository within the department.
• Reviewing performance of individual team members and conducting appraisals in accordance with the employee performance appraisal procedures and time schedules
Job Requirements (Education, Experience and Competencies)
Education:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Mathematics or Economics
A Postgraduate qualitification in analytics or project management is an added advantage
Proficient with MS Office application especially Excel and Power Point
Proficiency in data modeling, analytics and visualisation tools e.g SQL, Python, R, Microsoft Power BI, Tableu e.t.c
Experience:
At least 5 years’ experience in business analysis, pricing, financial modelling and product evaluation
Experience in Business Intelligence for telecommunications is desirable
Experience in hands-on financial forecasting and budgeting
Experience in advanced analytics tools and technique
