Hima Cement Limited is a cement manufacturer in Uganda. It is a subsidiary of the Sarrai Group, a diversified manufacturing conglomerate headquartered in Uganda with subsidiaries in Uganda, Kenya and Malawi.

Job Summary:   The position requires an individual with in depth interpersonal skills to be able to deal with people at all levels.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Oversee the manufacturing operations of the various sections located at the business’ Namanve site including but not limited to; The blending plant, the precast concrete products lines, the dry mortar operations, Cement warehouse as well as the innovations lab through ensuring optimal production and dispatch in a safe working environment.
    • Coordinate with the innovations and finance teams to ensure successful implementation of new approved business channels like ready-mix concrete, aggregates, dry mortar and any other related opportunities.
    • Develop and maintain the site operational performance standards; Health and Safety, Industrial excellence, Environment and Sustainability, Resource mobilization, development and optimization.
    • Develop and manage the plant asset base through effective equipment maintenance cycle and planning, section resource organisation and skills development, effective raw material reception, usage and storage control, maintain interdepartmental relationship in conjunction with the corporate administrator and HR department; ensure overall site security planning and coordination, and management of internal and external stakeholders through frequent engagements.
    • Manage the site industrial excellence framework through a defined plant improvement plan, annual budget planning and implementation, CAPEX needs and planning, setting out clear and measurable plant objectives and their assessment, ensuring effective quality control and assurance for produced products and services
    • Represent the business’ interests through external stakeholder engagements with authorities like UNBS, UIA, NEMA, UEDCL, Mukono District and municipal councils, management of external site operational related audit processes while at the same time ensuring compliance for IMS management systems as well as product permit processes


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Mechanical/Material/Chemical Engineering or related field
  • 5 years’ work experience in construction materials preparation and processing (cement, aggregate, concrete and precast concrete products).
  • Good knowledge of labor laws, safety and environment regulations
  • Good knowledge of control tools and instruments
  • Good knowledge of cement and cementitious materials and their applications.

  • Proactive and able to take initiative to propose and implement new approaches to work flow.
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality
  • Interpersonal skills and a team player.
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Must be able to build good working relations with both internal customers and external stakeholders.
