World Vision Uganda (WVU) is a Christian relief, development and advocacy non-government organisation dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. We currently work in 43 districts and have 48 Area Programmes implementing projects in health & nutrition, water, sanitation & hygiene (WASH), livelihoods & resilience, education and child protection. Due to expansion in scope of our programmes, we are now seeking for a qualified and passionate individual willing to share in our vision and join the team in the following role.
Position: Project Officer Nurition
Report to: Project Manager
Location: Abim

Purpose of the position:
Working closely with the health sector in the district and the community health workers to build capacity of district and community structures to enable health, nutrition intervention implementation at community and household levels. This may include; establishment of care groups, conduct food demonstration, support conducting of integrated outreaches, growth monitoring and promotion at community level, nutrition surveillance, monitoring and supervision. Oversee establishment and utilization of basic hygiene practices: especially Hand washing equipment. Support developing and dissemination of Information and Education Communication materials on nutrition and hygiene practices. Supervision to community groups to ensure nutrition and food security interventions are routinely implemented.
Key Outputs/Responsibilities.
Training & capacity building
1. Build the capacity of existing government and local structures to enable establishment of the community groups
2. Capacity building of Staff in nutrition sensitive and specific interventions at community and household levels.
3. Conduct follow up and supervision and ensure functionality of the community groups.
4. Provide trainings/orientation/technical inputs to staff, community structure members on nutrition and health monitoring and promotion at community level.
5. Coordinates with the technical staff coming from across Sectors for planning and implementations of the nutrition components within the programme.
Implementation of Nutrition sensitive and specific interventions
1. Lead in sensitization of beneficiaries on Nutrition and hygiene practices.
2. Map out the local staple food and sensitize the community on utilization such alternatives while upholding the nutritional composition (balanced diet)
3. Working closely with the district and community representatives to map out the target groups and beneficiaries
4. Working closely with the health sector in the district and the community health workers to conduct integrated outreaches, food demonstration, growth monitoring and promotion within the community groups
5. Oversee establishment and utilization of basic hygiene practices: especially Hand washing equipment
6. Work closely with the Community structure members to ensure adherence to nutrition and hygiene practices: waste disposal, dry rack, compost pits, hand washing equipment
7. Support in development of key nutrition and hygiene messages for dissemination during sensitization campaigns
8. Ensure appropriate management, referral and linkage to care of the malnourished identified during growth monitoring and promotion
9. Work closely with the health facility, district and region government structures to ensure data utilization to inform implementation and decision making
Accounting and reporting
1. Ensure all the planned nutrition activities are executed and reported on
2. Conduct monitoring visits to community groups and programme beneficiaries and compile monitoring reports for onward consolidation
3. Consolidate, compile and submit quality reports to Project Coordinator as directed.
4. Ensure that all reports are highly accurate, comprehensive, well documented and will guarantee the credibility of the program.
5. Ensure monthly progress report is completed and submitted for onward compilation
6. Work closely with the government structures to ensure all data is captured in the government information systems
7. Sharing progress, best practices, approaches and challenges in the available platforms in the districts and region and also for learning opportunities
Networking & external engagements
1. Actively engage the health facility, the beneficiaries and the technical team from the region, District Local Government and sub-county to participate on nutrition interventions at all levels
2. Support developing and dissemination of Information and Education Communication materials on nutrition and hygiene practices.
3. Supervision to community groups to ensure nutrition and food security interventions are routinely implemented
4. Coordination with Nutrition partner for common messaging and promotion of nutrition specific and sensitive programming.
5. Coordination and networking with nutrition partners in the region to support implementation of the nutrition interventions
Child Protection and Wellbeing
1. Monitor the wellbeing and child abuse cases and report any incidents in line with child protection policy and guidelines
2. Work with local leaders to protect children from child violations and abuses
3. Sensitize children including most vulnerable, guardians/parents and other stakeholders about children’s rights and responsibilities.
Other duties as maybe assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience
1. Degree in Nutrition studies
2. Must have 2 years’ experience in community nutrition programming & management, and Nutrition survey and assessments.
3. Willing to work under extreme hardship with limited resources.
4. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language and knowledge of the local language is an added advantage
5. Must have at least one-year experience working in the Karamoja region
6. Must have experience in establishment and functionalization of community support group for health and food
7. Track record demonstrating high integrity, innovativeness, creativity, reliability and dependable Team player, Self-motivator, able to work with limited supervision
8. Ability to ride a motorcycle with valid driving/riding license
9. Effective in written and verbal communication in English.
10. Ability to communicate in applicable local language(s) is an added advantag
11. Perform other duties as required
