JOB DETAILS:
Objectives
a) Capacity building and learning: To identify and strengthen the implementation, innovation and learning capacity of community-based health projects in Uganda, in order to improve health and sexual and reproductive health outcomes.
b) Linkage and advocacy: To link community-based health innovators to policy makers, key ministries local donors and other stakeholders, for more effective implementation, policy uptake and scale up of results.
Key tasks
1 . Identify existing social innovation health projects from all across Uganda using the open call approach developed by the Social Innovation in Health Initiative (SIHI).
2 Lead the capacity building social innovation fellowship program.
This modular and distance learning program will deliver the following six modules: Social Innovation in Health and Entrepreneurship; Effective Project Management; Research approaches and tools for social Innovation; An individual monitoring and evaluation or research project; Effective communication and fundraising; as well as a short course on environmental impact assessment and auditing. The training coordinator will be expected to work with module content experts to develop all the content for the modules and to delivery of the individual modules.
3. Lead research on community-based health projects using implementation research and case study research approaches,
Research to understand the barriers, facilitators, effect, and impact of the identified community-based health projects is necessary. The training and research coordinator will lead the research activities including: updating research protocols, renewal of ethical clearance, data collection and analysis, Data collection will be supported by research officers.
4. Organize and lead the regional and national level dissemination workshops.
Workshops to disseminate research results and to strengthen linkages between innovators and key stakeholders (policy makers, funders, and other implementors) will be organized and led by the training and research coordinator.
5. Explore partnerships with local donors in order to identify additional funding to support social innovation health projects and research activities.
6. Update the workplan and take responsibility for the program deliverables.
Required qualifications and experience
a) Master public health/global health or similar degree with a focus on research methods and/or monitoring and evaluation of programs. A PhD in similar field will be an added advantage.
b) Proven experience lecturing or teaching on short courses for busy executives or otherwise employed staff.
c) Eperience managing health related projects.
