FLIP Africa is a digital marketplace addressing youth unemployment in Africa by connecting gig workers with micro- and small businesses. It offers a platform where clients can find, hire, and pay rated and verified professionals across various industries.
Position: Head of Business – FLIP Africa
Location: Kampala, Uganda
Reporting To: Group Head of Operations
About the Role
As Head of Business, you will be responsible for directing and overseeing FLIP Africa’s activities and deliverables in alignment with 2025 proof of concept of the platform and the overall role it has in the broader QSS digitization strategy. Therefore, you will be required to exhibit close coordination with the senior management team, building internal value first before further technical development, commercialization and subsequent expansion across markets.
Objectives:
- Establish a Robust and Scalable Platform Foundation: Ensure the core FLIP platform technology operates flawlessly and is architected for future scalability and feature expansion, directly supporting user satisfaction and long-term growth.
- Drive Strategic Adoption and Commercial Traction: Lead the commercialization of FLIP within QSS and externally with key employers/SMEs, achieving significant adoption of digital hiring processes to generate early revenue and establish market presence.
- Leverage Technology and Data for Sustainable Commercial Growth: Strategically utilize platform data and emerging technologies to optimize user experience, identify new revenue streams, and enhance overall platform performance, contributing to long-term profitability and competitive advantage.

- Platform Growth & User Trust: Maximize platform adoption to drive digital transactions and penetration.
- Talent Excellence: Enhance talent quality and verification standards.
- Business Scalability: Expand business use cases across key sectors in collaboration with Q-Sourcing Servtec (QSS) business units by advocating for affiliated hiring entities (HEs) to create business profiles.
- Talent Development: Integrate TASC LMS learning pathways for talent upskilling, assessments, and certifications.
- Strategic Partnerships: Build strategic ecosystem partnerships with health insurance and credit providers.
- Market Leadership: Position FLIP as a market leader through strategic marketing initiatives, including the Future of Work podcast.
- Customer-Centricity & Insights: Institutionalize feedback mechanisms to track sector growth, analyze competitive advantages, and drive revenue growth.
- Employer Acquisition & Market Share: Engage 200 strategic businesses to hire through FLIP, expanding employer acquisition and market share.
- Financial & Operational Excellence: Ensure financial discipline and operational alignment, overseeing timely management of payables and receivables within budget.
- Data-Driven Intelligence: Deliver data-driven market intelligence to inform strategic decisions.
Requirements
Education:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, IT, or a related field.
Experience:
- 7 years of professional experience, with at least 5 years in project management focused on digital products with unique value propositions.
- At least 3 years in a leadership role driving significant digital product initiatives.
- Proven experience scaling innovative digital products with a strong focus on achieving commercial targets.
- Commercialization expertise and demonstrated success in defining and implementing effective monetization strategies.
- Experience in commercializing innovative digital solutions, with a strong grasp of market dynamics and user needs, resulting in revenue-generating product strategies.
- Ability to engage with and educate non-technical leadership teams on product and technology strategy.
- Exceptional stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills.
