AFRIpads is seeking a Menstrual Health Trainer consultant with a background in delivering training and providing capacity building in the area of women’s health, specifically menstrual health. A review of our business strategy has highlighted a need to venture viciously into menstrual health training if we are to achieve our set objectives.

Purpose of the Assignment
In order to continue thriving in the impact space, AFRIpads (U) Ltd believes more than ever there is a need to skill our business partners in menstrual health training to realize our mission and business objectives.

Description of Services
Engagement Location: AFRIpads head office, Kampala, Uganda.
This role will require travel within Uganda up to 20% of the time.
• Reporting Contact: The trainer will work closely with and report to Evidence and Partnerships Associate throughout the assignment.
• Duration of the Assignment: The trainer will be required to provide services located in Uganda. It is expected that the trainer will deliver up to two trainings of trainers (ToT’s) or training of beneficiaries, per month (up to 24 days/year, possibly more or less depending on AFRIpads’ training needs).
Please note: that this is a freelance consultancy-based contract, and employment is not guaranteed. Rather, we are seeking trainers that can provide flexible support, on an as-needed basis.

Trainer’s Key Responsibilities
Training and facilitation (80%- estimated 4 days per month)
• Confident and independent delivery of the AFRIpads Menstrual Health and Hygiene training curriculum and the Data Collection Toolkit to partners, both in person and online:
• For the MHH curriculum, this includes the delivery of the topics “happy and healthy during my period”, “the menstrual cycle”, “the reproductive system”, “tracking your period”, “training on the use and care of AFRIpads products” and any other training that may become part of the AFRIpads curriculum.
• For the Data Collection Toolkit, this includes the delivery of topics including research consent, baseline and endline surveys, focus group discussions, as well as technical support to the use of our data collection platform, KOBO collect.
• For pilot projects, data collection support will include:
• Hands-on support to partners in setting up KOBO collect, accessing the AFRIpads surveys, and guidance on administering the surveys.
• Training of enumerators in pilots where partners specifically ask for this support.
• Provide post-training reports for all training activities. This will include collecting feedback from participants after training, and ensuring that it is communicated to the Evidence and Partnerships Associate.
• Support in the preparation and adaptation of training materials (PowerPoint presentations, handouts, training activities)
• Collaborate with partners and interpreters in the field to ensure quality service provision and provide support to conduct successful trainings
• Attend capacity building meetings and trainings scheduled by the Partnerships and Evidence Associate.

Trainer Qualifications
The ideal trainer has experience working with both small and large NGOs to deliver menstrual health and hygiene training, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in similar roles. In this role, the trainer will be responsible for delivering training on the AFRIpads Menstrual Health and Hygiene (MHH) curriculum, and the Data Collection Toolkit. The consultant trainer will perform all pre and post training activities, including training preparation and post training reporting.
A bachelor’s degree or certification in Social Sciences/Social Work/Population Sciences/International Development/Health/Public Health/Nursing/Medicine/Research or related fields.
An equivalent 2 years’ experience in training or facilitation working with a reputable organization.

Trainer Required Competencies
• Demonstrated previous experience in delivering and facilitating training in menstrual health and hygiene (Training of Trainers and Training of Beneficiaries) is a strong asset.
• Knowledge of menstrual health products, particularly reusable menstrual health products is strongly preferred.
• Experience delivering training and facilitation both in person and online. Can demonstrate with examples their experience of delivering training in different contexts in Uganda, for both small and large NGOs. Can demonstrate with examples their experience in online facilitation using platforms such as Zoom, Teams and Google Meet.
• Demonstrated understanding of data collection and research principles.
• Understanding of research platforms, specifically KOBO collect, is desirable.
• Computer literacy (advanced literacy of MS Office applications and familiarity with Google Drive.
• Strong speaking and writing skills in English; Luganda and/ or additional local languages an asset.
• Highly flexible and able to travel regularly, with short notice. Travel is required within Uganda,
• Ability to work with staff from diverse communities and cultures.
• Proactive and good at working independently, as well as within a small team.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Keen at observing confidentiality and integrity in all duties performed
