JOB DETAILS:
Custom Engineering Ltd is construction company in need of a qualified experienced self-motivated accountant.
A Construction Company Accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of construction projects, including budgeting, cost analysis, revenue tracking and financial reporting, by closely collaborating with project managers to ensure projects are completed on time and within the budget, while adhering to industrial-specific accounting standards and regulations.
Key responsibilities
Project Budgeting and Cost Control
• Develop detailed project budgets and based on project estimates specifications
• Monitor project expenses against budget, identifying and addressing variances
• Conduct cost analysis to identify potential cost saving measures
Financial Reporting and Analysis
• Prepare regular financial reports for project managers and senior management, including project profitability statements
• Analyse financial data to identify trends and potential risks
• Provide insights into project performance to inform decision making
• Filing of tax returns in compliance with tax laws
• Prepare the payroll and compute statutory deductions of PAYE, NSSF among others in compliance with application laws
Invoicing and Accounts Receivable
• General invoices for completed work on construction projects
• Monitor outstanding invoices and follow up on overdue payments
• Ensure accurate and timely billing compliance
Accounts Payable Management
• Review and process vendor invoices for payment
• Maintain accurate supplier records and payment terms
• Identify and address potential discrepancies in invoices
Contract Management
• Review and analyse construction contracts to understand financial implications
• Track contract changes and ensure proper documentation of change orders
Compliance and Audit Support
• Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards (GAAP) and construction industry regulation
• Prepare necessary documentation for internal and external audits
Required Skills and Qualifications
Accounting Expertise
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, including accrual accounting, revenue recognition, and cost accounting
Construction Industry Knowledge
• Familiarity with construction project management processes, typical contacts, and industry-specific challenges
Analytical Skills
• Ability to analyse financial data, identify trends and provide actionable insights
• Expertise in accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks, Sage) and project management challenges
Communication Skills
• Effective communication to explain complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders
Education and Experience
• Bachelors’ degree in Accounting or Finance
• Certified public Accountant (CPA) or relevant professional accounting designation preferred
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounting, with a focus on the construction industry
